Apache Drill is an open-source, schema-free SQL query engine designed for Hadoop, NoSQL and cloud storage. It enables BI analysts, data scientists, and developers accelerate insights (without the overhead of data loading, schema creation and maintenance, transformation), analyze multi-structured and nested data in non-relational datastores (without transforming or restricting the data), leverage existing tools (Tableau, Qlikview, MicroStrategy, Spotfire, and Excel), and optimize data locality during query execution. Features include columnar execution engine, memory management, schema-free JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) data modeling, code reusability, distributed query optimization and execution, runtime compilation and code generation, and support for NoSQL data bases and file systems (including HBase, MongoDB, MapR-DB, HDFS, MapR-FS, Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, Google Cloud Storage, Swift, and NAS).
