Apache Heron is a real-time, distributed, fault-tolerant stream processing engine (originally developed by Twitter) for application developers. It enables users to handle massive workloads, process billions of events per minute, and maintain predictable behavior regardless of extreme traffic spikes and pipeline congestion. Features include a UI for visual overviews of topologies, monitoring capabilities, simplified debug tools, modularity (schedulers, metrics sinks, OS and platforms, and topology uploaders), process-based topologies, Apache Storm compatibility, backpressure handling, and deployment on shared infrastructure.
