Fred Optical Engineering Software (FRED) is a 3D computer-aided design (CAD) software package designed for optical engineers. It enables users to simulate the propagation of light through any optomechanical system, establish validation and understanding of the simulation model, redraw the paths to the 3D view for visualization, compile a list of scatter and ghost paths from source to a specified detector, and perform accurate irradiance, intensity, illuminance, luminous intensity, and color image calculations. Features include stray light analysis, built-in multi-variable optimization capability, user-defined script versions, coherent beam analysis, and virtual prototyping.
