Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM) is a file system and volume management platform designed for IT, database, and storage administrators. It enables users to store data files, manage units, expose a file system interface, create files in designated locations automatically, create a redo log that records information about changes to metadata blocks, recover instances when a node fails, share common disk groups as well as add a disk to an existing disk group to add space and improve throughput. Features include temporary data file management, SPFILEs, RMAN backup, bitmap tracking, storage reconfiguration, and dynamic rebalancing.
