Scala (scalable language) is a statically typed general-purpose programming language designed to support object-oriented programming and functional programming. It enables users to avoid bugs in complex applications, leverage JVM and JavaScript runtimes to build high-performance systems, utilize data-parallel operations on collections, actors for concurrency and distribution, or futures for asynchronous programming, and match against class hierarchies and sequences. Features include a seamless Java interop, type inference, concurrency and distribution, pattern matching, higher-order functions, runs on the JVM, on JavaScript in a browser, or natively with LLVM, and in IDEs such as IntelliJ IDEA, VS Code, GNU Emacs, Vim, and Sublime Text.
