Snort is an open-source network intrusion detection and prevention system (IDS & IPS) designed for IT network administrators and security professionals. It enables users to analyze priority response for false positives and rules, generate a set of IP fragmentation reassembly and TCP stream decoding, monitor incoming packets and detect emerging threats, organize fragmented packet probes and attacks, as well as share source and destination IP addresses and ports. Features include semantic URL attack analysis, server message blocking, port scanning, scalability, database management, and access optimization.
